1. What is COST Action "Magnetofluiddynamics"?
The COST action P6 "Magnetofluiddynamics" (MFD) was launched on 13 January 2000 by the European Commission. The purpose of the action is to enhance the european collaboration in the field of MFD and to develop ideas for future EC-proposals.
COST does not provide money for research! However, it supports travel of european scientists to topical meetings, and supports the organization of workshops. The annual budget of approximately 50.000 € is managed by Dr. Isabel Vergara-Ogando in the research directorate of the European Commission in Brussels.
Detailed information on the COST action can be found in the COST proposal or can be obtained by sending emails to the coordinators A. Thess (thess@tu-ilmenau.de) and G. Gerbeth (gerbeth@fz-rossendorf.de).
List of members of the management committee
The first meeting of the management committee was held on 1 March 2000 in Brussels. Four working groups (WG) have been set up, namely
WG1 Fundamentals (coordinator J. Leorat, Email:
jacques.leorat@obspm.fr)
WG2 Crystal gowth (coordinator A. Muiznieks, Riga,
Email: andrism@lanet.lv)
WG3 Poorly conducting fluids (coordinator G. Gerbeth, Rossendorf,
Email: gerbeth@fz-rossendorf.de)
WG4 Metallurgy (coordinator B. Nacke, Hannover,
Email: nacke@ewh.uni-hannover.de)
WG5 High magnetic fields and fusion (coordinator S. Molokov, Coventry,
Email: s.molokov@coventry.ac.uk)
It should be emphasized that the COST action MFD is intended to be a flexible and dynamic structure. Therefore proposals for new working groups are highly welcome.
Detailed information can be found in the minutes of the management committee meetings

If your country has already signed the COST action P6 (MFD) (as of 17 March this is the case for BE, GR, DE, IR, IT, LAT, ES, CH, SE, UK) then
* please send a short description of your research interests to the
working group coordinator of your choice,
* propose new working groups to the coordinators (A Thess and G Gerbeth)
* contact the two representatives of your country in the management
committee of the COST action.
If your country has not signet the COST action P6 yet,
* contact the COST coordinator of your country (usually an official
in the national ministery of research and technology) in order to sign
the COST contract,
* nominate two representatives from your country to the COST action.
